Our Story
Believe it or not, we get asked this question a lot! While yoga and goats may not make a lot of sense at first glance, we have found that this experience has helped a lot of people suffering from anxiety, depression and stress brought on by our daily lives. The combination of yoga and animal assisted therapy has also helped many people with special needs who have visited our farm. Goats have this magical presence about them that brings joy and laughter to so many individuals. From people with autism to Down Syndrome, goats have a very special way of connecting with humans. And Yoga just makes it that much more fun.
Our family has been on a difficult and wonderful journey that inspired us to create a place where people can experience joy and laughter not always found in their busy lives. Our farm name, Reverse the Kerrs Farm, has many meanings for our family. It's a tribute to our Chicago Cubs, our family name, and most importantly to our mission to reverse the curse and stigma around mental illness. If you visit us for goat yoga, you will hear us talk about our passion for improving mental health and promoting mental wellness through yoga and animal assisted therapy. Our classes most often lead to loads of fun and lots of belly laughs. What we don't always talk about is how we are suicide survivors; losing our beloved father and grandfather to depression in 2015. He is the reason and inspiration for what we do. Join us as we explore what it means to be humans and goats together, one hoofstep at a time!
Why Goat Yoga?
While yoga and goats may not make a lot of sense at first glance, we have found that this experience has helped a lot of people suffering from anxiety, depression, and stress brought on by our daily lives. The class is based on the belief that mental and physical health are interrelated and should be experienced together. Goats have a magical presence about them that brings about joy and laughter. They have a special way of connecting with humans, and yoga just makes it that much more fun.
